GP Plouay Bretagne 2011
GP Plouay Bretagne World Cup is arguably the toughest World Cup on the UCI women’s calendar. It consists of a 19.1km circuit with three short climbs, which we do six times, to make up a total race distance of 114.6km.The roads are very narrow and the racing is always very aggressive. Good bunch positioning is very important in this race, but is not always that easy to achieve on such narrow and technical roads.
There was a lot of activity on the front of the bunch and unfortunately I missed the critical moves of the day. Coming into the final laps, 6 girls had managed to escape off the front of the peloton. With the aggressive racing, the peloton split into numerous groups, I finished in the second group. It came down to a bunch sprint where I placed 5th from 14 girls. This meant that I finished 11th overall.
I am happy with my 11th place. It is my best finish in a World Cup event. The best of the best in the world of women’s cycling line up on the start line of every World Cup. A top 15 finish in a race of this caliber is a great achievement!
My Elite Ciao teammate, Martine Bras finished 26th, in the main peloton.
