To know that you have to have a first experience can make you nervous.
If the experience is with someone or something you which to have a good relationship with then you have to prepare yourself and be aware how you want to behave in the situation.
A few days ago I had my first experience with Elite’s Realaxiom trainer.
I have ridden many trainers and base around 75 percent of all my training year round on a trainer but still the first experience with Realaxiom was much anticipated.
I have come to understand how to use trainers to my advantage and have seen big improvements by training on them.
So training on a trainer was not new to me and I had planned just how I wanted my first Realaxiom ride to be.
I had planned a 20 minute time trial so that I could see how many watt I was able to produce.
Based on the test I made training zones that are according to my current fitness.
Training by power/watt is just one of the many cool options the Realaxiom offers.
I did a good warm up. While warming up the mind can wander and I look out the window. As always it was raining here in Copenhagen.
Through my window on the 3rd floor I saw cyclist on his way out to train.
He was wearing way to much clothes for what I like.
Cycling should one be done in shorts and the only moist that should be involved is the sweat from a good workout.
I turned up what music, send him some good karma to send him on his way and got ready for my test.
I had made the time trial in the Axiom mode and it’s profile was dead fla -.just the way most triathlons I race are.
I began the test..felt good.
I was surprised how well my pedal stroke felt.
The road feel was really great and I got into a good rhythm and held the intensity.
After about 15 minutes I realized that my good rhythm might have been a bit too good as I began hurting..a lot, I felt I was loosing control of my effort.
I turned the music up real loud and focus on my computer screen that showed the watts I was holding.
I don’t remember much from the last two minutes.
After I finished I had to get off the trainer and rest for a bit. I was sweating like a pig and realized I need to get a bigger fan for my next ride.
I got back on the bike and finished the workout feeling great.
The result of the test also made me happy because it showed I was a bit more fit than I thought at the moment.
There is no greater joy for me in training that to push the limit.
Many people can argue for hours on how to train. You can train this way and that way but the one thing all must agree on is that training should be hard if you want to improve.
After the ride I packed the Realaxiom away and the began singing Bob Marleys Classic ”Could you be loved”.
I made a nice cup of coffe, looked out the window again and saw another cyclist on his way back from training.
I looked at the Realaxiom and found the answer Bob Marley was asking.
Yes it could be love with this trainer.
